Radon Test
Radon is a radioactive gas present in the environment that infiltrates buildings through various cracks that may be present in the foundation. Radon has been linked to lung cancer in several studies. In fact, it is the second most frequent cause of lung cancer, after cigarette smoking. This invisible and odourless gas can be found in several areas around Montreal, especially in Oka, Saint-André-d’Argenteuil, and Mont-Saint-Hilaire.
A wide variety of short term or long term “do it yourself” tests exist on the market in order to help you determine the level of radon in your home. The short tests are 2 to 7 days in duration and the long term tests last anywhere from 3 to 12 months.
It is important to understand that the concentration of Radon is not constant and can change throughout the year. In order to obtain a reliable result, it is recommended to conduct a long term test of 6 to 12 months.
Since the short term test is unreliable and the long term test is simply too long to conduct, YG Home Inspection Services does not provide those services. however.
the “Real-time” radon measurement (screening test) is available in the course of home inspection (during heating season only) upon request
*authorization of the seller of the immovable property required
The “Real-time” radon measurement can give a short snapshot of radon levels, but should be supplemented with long term test.
